In July, there will be a fun opportunity for visitors to Grasagarðurinn and Fjölskyldu- og húsdýragarðurinn to become independent naturalists and get to know the ecosystem of Laugardalur. All kinds of organisms, animals, plants and fungi have chosen Laugardalur as their home. This refers to the organisms that are there on their own, not the plants that are grown in the Botanical Garden or the domestic animals in the Family and Animal Park. These are e.g. the thrushes in the trees, the earthworms in the soil, the honey flies boiling in the flowerbeds, the fools growing out of the sidewalk and so on. A whole world opens up to a person when you look closely. Everywhere life finds a place!
To take part in the search for organisms, information cards can be obtained, either at the Family and Animal Park reception, or at Kaffi Flóra in Laugardalur. Ask the staff if you can not find the cards. The panel contains some simple tasks / topics where participants are encouraged to look for certain types of organisms and ask themselves some interesting questions. Everything is very simple and convenient and can be done anywhere in Laugardalur where organisms are found.
Lífveruleitin is a collaborative project between Fjölskyldu- og húsdýragarðurinn, Grasagarður Reykjavíkur and Reykjavík-iðandi af líf, but the latter is a special educational campaign about biological diversity in the city.
