The cow Eyja gave birth to her first calf, a healthy bull called “Askur”. The name means ash (tree), which is fitting as he was born the night before Ash Wednesday. Eyja is doing well in her new role as a mother. Mother and son are staying in a pen that was previously the home of our beloved bull Guttormur. He was very mild-tempered and reached the high age of almost 13 years. Guttormur was extremely large to boot, and at his heaviest he was 942 kg. It is appropriate that Eyja and Askur are dwelling in his pen, as the calf is the same colour as Guttormur (red and white) and they are both even-tempered as well. We ask that guests at the zoo show them consideration by remaining calm when visiting.
