Lambing season began at the zoo last Wednesday, the 10th of May when the ewe “Flekka” gave birth to three lambs. One of the lambs is an ewe and the other two are rams. Traditionally in Iceland the first lambs of the season are called the “queens” and “kings” on each farm. Our queen was named Diljá, in honour of the singer competing for Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest this spring. Flekka did a wonderful job, and the newly crowned queen and kings are all healthy and robust. The ram “Jökull” is their father, and he observed their birth with interest. Staff members at the zoo are excited to see more lambs in the sheep stall in the coming days and weeks.
