The cows were jumping for joy

The cattle at the Reykjavik Park and Zoo go out each day to get fresh air and exercise. Although recently the staff was able to release them out on the green grass for the first time this year. They were very excited and jumped for joy, running around the pasture. The Icelandic Phrase “Að sletta úr klaufunum” is drawn from this behaviour. It means to have fun or more literally to “Splash out of cloven hooves”. There are four cattle at the Zoo, a steer called Hringur, two cows, Mæling and Eyja and a bull calf called Askur (born to Eyja).
