The cow Eyja, red and white, living in the cowshed at the Family Park and Zoo, gave birth to a bull calf on Sunday evening, May 26th. The calf, which is mostly white but with red mouth, nose and ears, drinks milk directly from Eyja´s teats in the free-range pen in the shed that the mother and newborn son share with the "uxi" Hringur. Hringur is not the calves father, as "uxi" is a term used for a castrated bull. The sire of the calf is the bull Ljómi, mostly white but with charcoal gray around mouth, noses and ears, but Eyja was inseminated 9 months ago.
Staff ask visitors to show the newborn calf and its mother the utmost consideration and walk quietly around the cowshed.
