The lambing season has come to an end.

Lambing Season came to an end on Ascension Day (May 29) When the Ewe Kylja Gave Birth to Two Lambs – a Black-Spotted Ram and a Black Ewe Lamb

Kylja and the other ewes in the park, along with their lambs, will welcome visitors during opening hours. Hopefully, the coming days will bring good weather so the animals can be outdoors as much as possible. The animal caretakers kindly ask visitors to be respectful of the young animals and all other animals, and to move quietly through the area.

Furthermore, the animal schedule will change, May 31, when the summer season begins at the Reykjavík Family Park and Zoo. Opening hours will be extended by one hour, and the park will be open from 10 AM to 6 PM.

A new program feature called “Environmental Enrichment” will be held every day of the week. At 2 PM each day, staff from the animal and education departments will demonstrate and explain environmental enrichment for the animals. These enrichments come in various forms, and the goal is to enhance the animals’ environment and help staff approach them safely when needed. This can be necessary, for example, when a veterinarian or zoo staff needs to examine an animal closely or administer medication or supplements. The animals featured will vary from day to day.

The summer schedule for the animals will take place daily as follows, with feedings and caretakers sharing information about the animals with visitors.

10:30 Reindeer
11:00 Seals
11:30 Foxes
14:00 Environmental enrichment
