Heiða, the fox cub, came into the care of Reykjavik Animal Service after suffering hardships in Reykjavik. She has come a long way and is feeling a lot better, especially after being released into one of the outer enclosures at Reykjavik Park & Zoo. She does not get to share the same enclosure as our foxes Ylfa and Ynja, since the sisters have claimed that area as their own territory and would probably not welcome a new member. The foxes are all mainly fed dog food as they are related and have similar dietary needs as dogs but they also get eggs, meat and fish regularly.
One of the roles of Reykjavik Animal Service is to help animals in need that are within the municipality. Animals can get into trouble in the city, some get badly injured and need treatment while others may need just a little help before being released again, which is often the case when seabirds get lost.
If people notice an animal in need in Reykjavik then we recommend contacting Reykjavik Animal Service for information. Always contact the appropriate municipality when an animal in need is found, as according to regulation.
