The staff in the Education department at the Reykjavik Park and Zoo have been working on an app that guests can download to their smart devices and learn about the animals. When the school year starts, customized guided tours will be published on the app for preschool and elementary school students in Iceland. Staff at the zoo is currently working on translating the tours to English. Until then, guests are invited to take a smart guided tour around the zoo.
This app will allow more students to take tours, then the staff at the education department can accommodate in traditional educational sessions. Guided tours provided by staff in the Education department are in high demand during the school year, especially in the springtime.
The app is called Husdyragardurinn – Viskuslod and can be downloaded from AppStore and Play Store and was created by the company Locatify. We are excited to develop this project further for students that visit the zoo that have a thirst for knowledge about animals and various other topics.
The Tour that is currently offered in the app is called “A Walk in the Park “. Please enjoy our smart guided tour.
