Life goes on as usual in the Reykjavik Park & Zoo. This autumn attendance has been above average and last September was the fourth best September (in terms of visitor numbers) since the park first opened in 1990.
Preparations for the opening of the “Yuletide Valley” are well under way and you may find staff hanging up the holiday lights, putting out torches and conjuring up a good atmosphere in time for the Advent. These glorious decorations will be formally lit on Friday the 29th of November, in the afternoon. More information will come later on, here on our website and on our social media. One thing is for sure, the lights will shine brighter than ever before and hopefully the atmosphere will follow.
The animals in the zoo are doing well. They are adapting to the winter season; replacing old and worn feathers or growing out their fur to meet the cold. These days our grazing animals are spending more and more time indoors since the grass in the outdoor pens has stopped growing.
A new storehouse as been built next to the fox enclosure. The storehouse will be used to store fodder, bedding, tools and various other materials which are essential for keeping the zoo operating.
The park is open everyday from 10:00 to 17:00 and during the coming Advent (from the 29th of November until Christmas) opening hours will be until 20:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
