We offer courses for students in preschool and primary school, in the form of guided tours or hands on learning. We encourage teachers to actively take part on class trips and be readily accessible. We therefore ask teachers to prepare well for their visit, so the field trip can be as productive as possible.
We also encourage teachers to examine the courses offered before contacting us. Teachers may book courses by sending an email to namskeid@husdyragardur.is. The information we require for booking is: The names of the school and contact person, the course you would like to book, the preferable time and date of the course and the number of students attending. Please note that we have various limits for each course on the number of students we can receive.
The current contract (valid for the school year 2022-2023) between the Department of School and Recreation in Reykjavik (SFS) and the Reykjavik Park and Zoo allows students in schools and preschools in the city of Reykjavik to take advantage of the FHG educational program and to visit to the park during school hours, free of charge. Students attending after-school programs run by the city are also allowed to visit the park during opening hours. Students in schools outside of Reykjavik pay regular admission to the park, which can be found at the bottom of the webpage.
As in the past few years the staff at the Zoo are going to take a break from offering educational courses and guided tours for students from May 10th, 2024, until the end of the school year. Instead, there will be two to three open pop-up educational talks each workday for the remainder of the school year. In these sessions, those who are interested can receive education about the animals at the zoo. The animals chosen are determined by the weather, atmosphere and number of guests visiting the park at each time.
Attendance at the park is usually high in the spring and this arrangement allows the staff to accommodate more guests, rather than offering traditional tours.
