Yuletide Valley Opening November 29th

In the past few weeks our staff have been busy putting up lights and decorations all around the park making it quite a magical experience to walk around the park during twilight hours and visit the animals. The very bravest of visitors can risk a visit to the notorious Yule Cat who has taken up residence in the park.

The Grand opening of the Yule Valley will be next Friday on November 29th with free admission from 17:00. The City Mayor, Einar Þorsteinsson, will officially open the Yule Valley with a small ceremony down by the pond within our park where he will extend Yule Greetings to the guests.

A group of figure skaters from the Reykjavík Skating Association will perform on the pond, the Workers Brass Band will play music and Jóhanna Guðrún will sing a few songs. Lalli the Magician will conduct the schedule of the evening. On the way from the park entrance towards the pond, visitors can expect to meet all sorts of curious creatures from the world of Brian Pilkington as well as the quartett Barbara.

Opening hours of the park will be adjusted to make the best out of the decorations, the park will be open until 20:00 Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until the 24th of December. The Yule Valley is an event chosen by the residents of Laugardalur in the citizen election “Hverfið mitt” (e. My neighborhood) and we welcome everyone to visit the extravagantly decorated Yule Valley in the Reykjavik Park and Zoo, free of charge, from 17:00-20:00 every Friday-Sunday during the Advent. On weekdays (Monday-Thursday) opening hours are 10:00-17:00 and regular admission fees apply.

During the evening openings, guests can visit the animals, take a ride on the carousel, enjoy some music and grab a bite or drink from the various food trucks in our food hall. A scavenger hunt for the whole family will be available on the app “Húsdýragarður – Viskuslóð” which can be found in appstores. Dog owners who have registered their dog in their municipality are invited to bring their be(a)st friends along for the evening openings.
