This week three staff members at the park took a trip to the northern part of Iceland, Strandir to acquire three new ewes that will inhabit the zoo. The weather in Reykjavik was very good, although it was raining heavily and windy most of the trip (after they reached the fjord Gilsfjörður). The view var limited over the mountain road Þröskuldar but got better when the staff arrived at Strandir. The destination was Heydalsá where the farmer there Ragnar had hearded some lovely ewes together for the staff to choose from. Three ewes were selected and named Tvenna (meaning two items as she has two dots on her face), Björt (meaning bright) and Orka (meaning energy). They have various piebald patterns, Tvenna is black and white and Björt and Orka have moorit colours ad well as white. Tvenna and Björt have no horns (polled), but Orka has horns (non-polled). Staff members are excited to get to know them better.
